CHARLIE MOORE IS JUST 'MAD' ABOUT BRIGHAM'S
Mad Fisherman Reels in His Own Ice Cream Flavor to Benefit HIV/AIDS Patients at Children's Hospital Boston
BOSTON, MA, June 20 - Charlie Moore, the renowned "Mad Fisherman" and Emmy award-winning host of NESN's Charlie Moore Outdoors and
ESPN's Beat Charlie Moore, has reeled in his own big one, a fishing-inspired ice cream flavor to benefit children living with HIV/AIDS.
Teaming up with Brigham's Ice Cream, the premiere ice cream manufacturer in New England, Moore and Brigham's executives today unveiled
Mad Fish Mud with Caramel Bait at a special event held at Children's Hospital Boston. The new pint-sized ice cream, which will be
available throughout New England beginning this month, was created by Moore and manufactured by Brigham's, with the goal of helping
HIV/AIDS patients at Children's Hospital Boston.
Moore, a New England native, has a huge following of television fans across New England and around the country. With a deep commitment to
children's causes, Moore announced that all of his proceeds from the sale of Mad Fish Mud ice cream will be donated to helping children with
AIDS in New England through the programs at Children's Hospital Boston. By launching his first ever ice cream with Brigham's, Moore hopes to
raise more than $50,000 for children with HIV/AIDS.
To support Moore's efforts, Brigham's also announced it will offer coupon sheets for half-priced ice cream dishes or cones. According to
Darryln Leikauskas, Vice President of Marketing for Brigham's, from June 20 through July 20, consumers can purchase a sheet of coupons for
$5 and save up to $18 on 12 cones through the end of July. The offer is good at participating Brigham's restaurants and 100 percent of the
proceeds from the sale of the coupons also will be donated to Children's Hospital Boston.
The Lure of Mad Fish Mud
Mad Fish Mud with Caramel Bait was inspired by Moore's passion for fishing - without the fish, of course! The Mad Fisherman and Brigham's
team set off to create a flavor that combined several winning ingredients into one rich, delicious flavor combination. Mad Fish Mud starts
with Brigham's rich coffee ice cream, then is loaded with chocolate covered caramel cups for bait and streams of Brigham's fudge sauce. The
flavor is part of Brigham's new pint line, available this summer at convenience stores throughout New England as well as at Brigham's non-mall
restaurants.
"There's nothing sweeter than reeling in a big one on a hot summer day - that is, unless you're enjoying a delicious dish of ice cream and
knowing that every spoonful goes toward helping children who are dealing with a serious illness," said Moore. "My hope is that, as people
enjoy the great flavor of Mad Fish Mud, they will also have the satisfaction of knowing they are putting a smile on the faces of some
terrific kids who are battling HIV/AIDS."
About Children's Hospital AIDS Program
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the virus that is responsible for causing acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). The virus destroys
or impairs cells of the immune system and progressively destroys the body's ability to fight infections and certain cancers. In children
under the age of 13 in the United States, nearly all HIV infections are from vertical transmission, which means the virus is passed to the
child when they are in their mother's womb or as they pass through the birth canal. However, not every child born to an HIV-infected mother
will acquire the virus.
The Children's Hospital AIDS Program (CHAP) at Children's Hospital Boston offers services to infants, children and adolescents with, or at
risk for, HIV infection or AIDS. Services include:
- HIV counseling and testing
- clinical care and case management
- outreach and MassCARE Program assistance
- education
- mental health services
- clinical drug and vaccine trials
- adolescent HIV services
Brigham's, which was founded in 1914, offers a superior line of premium ice cream as well as élan Frozen Yogurt, which are sold
throughout New England.
