BEAT CHARLIE MOORE WITH JOHN AHLMAN
By Charlie Moore
In this week's episode, I am challenged by "regular guy", John Ahlman. John is from Waltham, MA. He is married and he and his wife
have four yellow labs that they have rescued. They both work and volunteer with North East All Retriever Rescue. This is an organization that
helps to find homes for misplaced and troubled dogs. John challenged me to fish on the Charles River in Waltham, MA. John grew up in that area
and has fished on the river his entire life. The challenge included fishing with spinner baits, (John makes his own as a hobby and has even
started his own small business), and most fish wins. There is only one problem with John, he is from my neck of the woods but for some reason,
he is a frickin Dallas Cowboys fan which makes me want to do a little old school Charles River fishing, you know what I mean, throw him over
board with an anchor tied around his ankle. And to make things worse, my favorite NFC team is the Redskins (my family is from Washington) who
are the Cowboy's biggest rivals!
We had a beautiful day for our challenge, sunny and clear, however, a few days prior; it was cold and snowy which really messed up the fishing.
You know, typical autumn weather in New England! We weren't fishing for very long before John got sick. He felt really bad, but we couldn't
finish the challenge that day. John had come down with the stomach flu and ended up being sick for the next four days! And I thought he liked
my show! Because of this situation, we decided to spend another day on the water with each of us fishing separately.
As usual, when I decided to go out for my second day on the water it was 32 degrees! I would tell you what happened but you will just have to
watch the show to find out. But I did mention that it was cold, right? Naturally, John had great weather for his second day of fishing. I had
a previous commitment that day, but you will see that I made my presence known! John was a really nice guy and I enjoyed doing this episode
of Beat Charlie Moore. As with all of my shows, my number one goal is to make sure that we have a lot of fun. Even though John remains a true
Dallas Cowboys fan, it makes me feel good to know that Tony Romo will someday choke again!
